Students From Spain Come "Home" To America

High school exchange students from Spain arrive in Grayslake tomorrow for a three-week immersion program in American culture.

Tomorrow, our family is expanding by one--a 15-year-old boy from Spain, to be exact. And we can hardly wait.

We volunteered to host "Juan Bosco" from Spain for three weeks. It is part of the Share America program. He will live with us, and go to classes a few days per week with our kids, Lauren and Kyle.

We plan to take him to a White Sox game, , ,Β  and other Grayslake hot spots. We'll bring Bosco to the to show him how the community rallies and remembers its heroes.

His sister is also coming to live with another family in Grayslake. All of the kids from Spain will have days together to go explore tourist attractions in Chicago such as Navy Pier, Willis Tower and museums. Apparently shopping at Gurnee Mills also ranks high on the student's list of things to do.

Students are staying with families in Grayslake, Libertyville and Vernon Hills. I'll keep you updated here on our adventures with Bosco. He speaks some English but we only speak a tiny amount of Spanish - I know how to ask where the library is - so communicating will be interesting. It promises to be an exciting adventure for us all.

Are you hosting a student from Spain too? Great! I'd love to post any stories and photos you have with your new family members. Libertyville Patch Editor Chi-an Chang would love the same from families in Libertyville or Vernon Hills who are hosting students.

Stay tuned to Grayslake Patch to see what happens next.
