Giant Swimmers Win Maine Invitational

Highland Park High School swim team takes first out of eight teams as Emma Gelberg and Erin Cullather win individual titles.

The Final Score:        1. Highland Park 281, 2. Maine West 238, 3. Niles North 235, 4. Niles West 207, 5. St. Viator 150, 6. Wheeling 125, 7. Marist 57, Regina Dominican 36. 

Giants Top Performers:       Winners were Erin Cullather in diving and Emma Gelberg in the 200-yard individual medley. Gelberg also took fifth in the 500 freestyle and teamed with Sam Lask, Caroline Kane and Molly Solem to place third in the 200 medley relay. Lask was second in the 100 breaststroke, Solem fourth in the 500 freestyle and Kane fifth in the 100 butterfly.

Other Notable Giant Performances:           Natalie Gelberg swam to third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200. Avery Spitz took third in the diving competition while Maddie Cavanaugh did the same in the 100 freestyle as did Sophia Livney in the 100 breaststroke. Julia Solem placed fourth in the 100 backstroke while Hannah Chonkan-Urow was fifth in the 100 freestyle.  

Who’s Next:   The Giants travel to Niles North at 5 p.m. Friday.
