New Dog Park Opens in Highland Park

Permits can be bought at Heller Nature Reserve.

The following information comes from the Park District of Highland Park.

Located at Larry Fink Memorial Park, the Park District's new dog park is open year round, dawn to dusk. 

There are two fenced areas, one for larger dogs, and one for smaller dogs. Permits are required and can be purchased at Heller Nature Center.

Moraine Beach
The Moraine Beach season begins April 1 and is open through late November.

Highland Park Golf Learning Center
This is the winter site and is available November through March.

*The fenced dog exercise areas are the ONLY Park District locations that dogs are allowed off-leash. A picture permit card is required to be allowed entrance into any of these off-leash areas. We want all of our guests to have fun and be safe; rules and regulations will be strictly enforced. Dog owner cooperation and compliance is the key to the success of this program.

How do I get my permit card?

Fees:

Highland Park resident: $40 first dog ($20 each additional dog) must provide their current City of Highland Park dog tag number and rabies vaccination number.

Non-Resident: $140 first dog ($70 each additional dog) must provide proof of their current rabies vaccination number.

*A limited amount of non resident passes are available.
*A parking sticker will be provided.

Rules & Regulations

  • Dogs must be on a leash and under control to and from the off-leash exercise area.
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs.
  • Owners are solely responsible for their dogs.
  • Dogs not under control or uncooperative will have their card revoked.
  • Children must be at least 10 years of age to enter the off leash area and must be closely supervised.
  • Maximum of two dogs per person on any single visit.
  • Dogs must be fully immunized and display City of Highland Park rabies tag.
  • Violation of rules or ordinances will result in loss of privileges with no refund and fines up to $500.
  • Presentation of your permit card is required for use of the parks and is not transferable.
  • Dogs are allowed off-leash only in the designated fenced enclosures.
