Hazel Crest Man, 18, Charged After Crash With Hearse: Homewood PD

The crash happened Friday at 8:30 a.m., Homewood police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — A Hazel Crest man has been charged and Homewood police continue to investigate after a hearse was struck and an occupied casket ejected in a traffic crash Friday morning.

Davion Marlow, 18, of Hazel Crest, was one of three to flee from a car after a stolen Kia hit a hearse near 183rd and Kedzie Avenue Friday morning, Homewood police said.

Homewood police and fire were called at 8:30 a.m. to 183rd Street and Kedzie Avenue for a report of a crash. Police learned a silver Kia traveling at a high rate of speed had struck a white Cadillac hearse, Homewood police said Friday afternoon. Roads were closed in the area while police investigated.

Preliminary reports show the Kia—reported stolen out of Chicago Heights—was traveling eastbound on 183rd Street when it hit the hearse, police said. A casket containing a deceased person's body was ejected in the crash, police said.

Three occupants of the Kia fled on foot. One was located and taken into custody, police said. Marlow was later charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting a peace officer, no valid driver's license, no valid insurance, disobeying a traffic control device, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Homewood police said Friday night.

The driver of the Cadillac was treated by Homewod Fire Department paramedics and transported to a local hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit.
