Flossmoor Man to Sing National Anthem at Chicago White Sox Game
H-F graduate Andrew Sons is one of only 20 performers chosen this season to sing the Star-Spangled Banner before a Chicago White Sox game.

From singing with Viking Choir in front of a hometown audience, to belting out the National Anthem in front of roughly 40,000 people, Flossmoor's Andrew Sons has made it a long way.
The 2005 grad is scheduled to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" during the May 23 Sox vs. Twins game at 7:10 p.m.
Currenty, Sons teaches music at a South Side Chicago charter school.

“I also sing with an excellent choir in Chicago called the Chicago Chorale,” Sons said.
According to Sons, his brother Art is responsible for contacting the White Sox PR department. Sons said they told him they may receive over 1,000 audition tapes for the 23 dates available to fill.

“A few days later, they sent my brother an email with a list of dates from which to choose,” Sons said.
“He … was selected on merit,” said Alli Novak, Chicago White Sox public relations manager.
So how does it feel the night before this once-in-a-lifetime event?
“I admit, the thought of singing for potentially 40,000 people makes me anxious,” Sons said. “Though I know, when it comes time to sing, I'll switch into singer mode and hopefully do exactly what I've practiced.”
