Chicago police shot and killed a man Tuesday night in East Hazel Crest.

Ryan Rogers, 27, was under surveillance by Chicago police when they attempted to stop him, ABC 7 Chicago reports. That's when Rogers rammed police with his van and tried to escape.

Police, fearing for their lives, then shot Rogers, according to the report.

The East Hazel Crest Police Department assisted Chicago police with the incident in the 1900 block of 171st Street, which reportedly started Tuesday night and continued through Wednesday morning.

Rogers' relatives refused to leave their home after the shooting, fearing they would be shot as well, according to the report. Authorities believe several people, including a child, were inside the home early Wednesday morning.
