Joliet Police Make 1st Felony Arrest Of 2025
Gregory Woods was on the scene and was placed into custody without incident, Joliet police said.

JOLIET — The first person booked into the Will County Jail by the Joliet police force in 2025 was 64-year-old Oneida Street resident Gregory Woods. Woods was booked into the detention center at 4 a.m. on New Year's Day, on charges of aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery.
Woods remained in the jail as of 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events transpired on New Year's Day, less than two hours into the new year.

According to English, at 1:50 a.m., the officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Oneida Street for a domestic disturbance. Officers learned that Woods had allegedly attacked a woman.
Through additional investigation, police determined that during an argument in the home, Woods grew angry and punched her multiple times in the face as she attempted to leave, according to English.

Woods is accused of then holding the victim down against a chair and pressing his forearm against her neck, making it difficult for the victim to breathe, English said.
