Shorewood Woman Killed, Teen Arrested In Morris Shooting: Reports

The 16-year-old was apprehended Thursday night after police issued a shelter in place order amid reports of an active shooter.

MORRIS, IL — A Shorewood woman was killed in a shooting at an apartment building in Morris and a teenager was apprehended Thursday evening, according to police, who initially reported the incident as an active shooter and urged residents to shelter in place.

WCSJ said Grundy County Coroner John Callahan identified the victim as 25-year-old Beverly Lambert of Shorewood.

Morris police said a 16-year-old was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder. The 16-year-old was taken to River Valley Detention Center.

"The investigation continues and further details will be released when available," police said late Thursday night.

Police confirmed the shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Twilight Drive around 4:25 p.m.

WJOL reported the 16-year-old was arrested on John Street near U.S. 52 in Joliet.

As the shooter remained on the loose Thursday night, all Morris residents were initially asked to shelter in place, according to a text alert sent to the community.

City of Morris Public Information Officer Stan Knudson credited Flock Safety camera technology with helping track the vehicle the suspect was driving.

"Great work in police work and technology coming together," Knudson said.

WCSJ radio station in Grundy County first reported the active shooter situation.
