JOLIET — A man who was staying at the Daybreak Homeless Shelter at 611 East Cass Street is now in the Will County Jail following Sunday night's beating of another man at the shelter, according to the Joliet police said.

The victim's injuries necessitated a Joliet Fire Department ambulance transport to the Silver Cross Hospital.

According to Joliet police, 34-year-old Aldo Vega was later booked into the Will County Jail on two counts of aggravated battery, violation of pre-trial release and resisting arrest.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events happened around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday:

Officers responded to Daybreak Shelter at 611 East Cass for a violent attack. The officers learned that Vega grew angry at a man and allegedly struck the male multiple times in the face. Vega ran from the officers when they tried to place him into custody.
