Brain Dead Girlfriend Dies 2 Days After Boyfriend Accidentally Shot Her In Head: Officials

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet woman left brain dead after her boyfriend accidentally shot her in the head died after two and a half days in the hospital, police said.

Police officers reportedly found 30-year-old Kia Johnson face-down on the floor of her Evergreen Terrace apartment Monday morning. She had a bullet wound to her head.

Before entering the apartment, the officers responding to the shooting were in met in a stairwell by Johnson’s boyfriend, 31-year-old Jasper Johnson, police said. Jasper Johnson reportedly told the officers, “I shot her accidentally, I shot her accidentally, I shot my girlfriend.”

Kia and Jasper Johnson lived together in the North Broadway apartment, police said.

Officers reportedly found a .22-caliber revolver in the apartment. It was the same gun that killed Kia Johnson, police said.

Kia Johnson was pronounced deceased shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.

Jasper Johnson was arrested Monday morning and taken to the Will County jail. His bond was set at $250,000 and he remained in custody Thursday.
