Bridge Out — Cass Street Span Closed For the Week

JOLIET, IL — The Cass Street bridge closed for repairs Monday morning and will stay closed until May 15, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

"The closure is necessary for mechanical and electrical repairs to the bridge," IDOT said in a press release.

The drawbridge has been raised for the repairs.

"Cass Street bridge is the last of six moveable bridges in Joliet to be repaired," IDOT said. "The project to repair all six bridges has been ongoing for the past two years. The overall improvements will result in reliable and safe operation of the bridge, signal gates and traffic signals."

IDOT warned motorists to expect delays.
