Car Stolen On Hickory Street, Thief Visits Joliet Police Station To Admit Guilt: Police

JOLIET — Nearly four months after a car theft in Joliet went unsolved, 19-year-old citizen Romero Rodriguez visited the Joliet Police this week to confess to his crime, the arrest report showed.
Rodriguez was arrested and released on a Notice to Appear for the crime of motor vehicle theft.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, on January 3, at 12:49 p.m., the officers responded to the 400 block of North Hickory Street for a theft of a vehicle. Officers learned that the victim’s Hyundai Elantra had been stolen from outside the house sometime that morning.

The vehicle’s keys were accounted for, and officers found no broken glass or debris at the scene. The unoccupied vehicle was located by an officer on patrol the next morning near Taylor Street and Center Street and it was towed from the area.
On Monday of this week, Rodriguez contacted the Joliet Police Department indicating that he wished to turn himself in for this motor vehicle theft. Officers met Rodriguez in the 700 block of Plainfield Road. Rodriguez admitted to stealing the Hyundai Elantra in January and he was placed into custody without incident, English noted.
