District Attorney in Patrick Kane Case to Speak After DNA Revelations
Prosecutor to speak after one lawyer reveals tale of rape-kit evidence bag left on doorstep and the other reveals DNA evidence details.

As attorneys for Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane and the woman accusing him of rape openly discuss the DNA evidence and possible evidence tampering, Erie County’s district attorney will add his voice to the matter with a Friday morning press conference.
Frank Sedita III is known for being methodical, deliberate and tight-lipped about pending criminal investigations, particularly high-profile ones. Friday’s 10 a.m. press conference, an unusual move on his part, would be the first time Sedita will publicly acknowledge the investigation of the 26-year-old hockey star. A 21-year-old woman he met in a bar on Aug. 2 has accused Kane of sexually assaulting her in his home.
Everything about this case has been highly unusual, however.

Kane’s attorney, Paul Cambria, on Wednesday told reporters Kane’s DNA was not found below the accuser’s waist nor in her undergarments. Cambria said DNA on her body come from “a mixture” of male profiles. Sources told The Buffalo News Kane’s DNA was found in bite marks on her shoulders and under the accuser’s fingernails.
Also Wednesday, the woman’s attorney, Thomas Eoannou, told reporters a rape-kit evidence bag was left on her mother’s doorstep sometime this week. The bag, folded in half and torn, was discovered Tuesday afternoon. He said he has “grave concerns” about chain of custody regarding the evidence.

“The bag has a label on it. It contains my client’s identity. It contains my client’s birthday,” Eoannou said. “It contains the location where the rape kit was done, and it confirms the nurse’s initials who performed the rape kit.”
Police said the rape-kit evidence has not been compromised and everything remains in official custody. On Wednesday, Sedita promised an investigation would take place.
Kane has not been charged with a crime.
