Man's Body Found Near Joliet's New Houbolt Road Toll Bridge, Coroner Investigation Underway

The Will County Coroner's Office responded to the scene and pronounced the individual dead.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Police Spokesman Dwayne English issued a press release revealing that a man's body was found in Joliet Tuesday morning before sunrise. English told Patch that the investigators believe the man jumped to his death at some point Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

English said that at 5:27 a.m., officers responded to the Houbolt Road toll bridge over the Des Plaines River for a reported motorist assist after a vehicle was stopped on the west shoulder with hazard lights activated.

Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle running with the keys in the ignition and no driver present. Officers used drones to search the surrounding area, and nearby businesses were also checked.

The Joliet Fire Department was initially requested to assist with a search of the area. As the search progressed, an officer found the man dead beneath the bridge. There were no indications of foul play.

The Will County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead. Identification and manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
