Joliet police officers determined that 22-year-old Luis Hernandez-De Jesus' driver's license was suspended due to a past DUI.

JOLIET — In one of the first Joliet police drunken driving arrests for 2025, 22-year-old Luis Hernandez-De Jesus found himself being escorted in handcuffs into the downtown police station, where the young man was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI and two counts of DUI.

The Joliet police let Hernandez go on a notice to appear in court, he was not brought to the Will County Jail.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the 22-year-old Joliet resident was arrested on New Year's Day, but after it was already dark outside.

According to the Joliet police arrest report, at 9:47 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Desplaines Street for a report of occupants of a vehicle throwing beer cans out from the vehicle. Officers arrived at the area and located a Volkswagen Jetta that was occupied and running, parked near an alley in the 200 block of Desplaines Street, according to police.

Polcie said Hernandez-De Jesus was the driver, and appeared to be impaired by alcohol, and he admitted to drinking alcohol, the arrest report noted.

The officers saw empty alcohol containers inside the vehicle, according to English.

Hernandez-De Jesus performed field sobriety tests and he was then placed into custody. Officers determined that Hernandez-De Jesus’ driver’s license was suspended due to a past DUI. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
