DUI Arrest After Man With Gun Falls Asleep Near Jefferson: JPD

A loaded handgun was recovered from Mario Anguiano's vehicle and the vehicle was towed from the scene, Joliet police noted.

JOLIET — A 37-year-old Joliet motorist who Joliet police say had a loaded gun in his car now finds himself in the Will County Jail after Mario Anguiano Jr. fell asleep behind the wheel of his car on Saturday night near Reed Street and West Jefferson Street.

Arrest reports show Anguiano is now charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon by felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and having an outstanding Will County arrest warrant.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the area of West Jefferson Street and Reed Street for a driver asleep at the wheel of a vehicle in a lane of traffic. Officers found a running Ford Fusion facing southbound on Reed Street and discovered the driver appeared to be asleep, according to police.

With the assistance of Joliet Fire Department paramedics, the man woke up and exited the vehicle, according to English. Officers identified the male as Anguiano and determined that he held an active Will County arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on previous traffic charges.

Anguiano was placed into custody without incident. Upon searching him, officers recovered suspected cocaine, police said. A loaded handgun was also recovered from Anguiano’s vehicle, according to English. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
