Father Of Girlfriend’s Child Slashed New Lover’s Belly: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man slashed the belly of his child’s mother’s boyfriend, police said.

Ryan Matthews, 36, was waiting in the new boyfriend’s Fourth Avenue residence when he got home Monday night, police said.

The 27-year-old boyfriend told Matthews to leave, police said, and Matthews took a swing at him.

The two men struggled and the boyfriend got Matthews in a headlock, police said, but let him loose when he felt something sharp “poke” his stomach and then noticed he was “bleeding everywhere.”

Matthews took off and the boyfriend drove himself to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where doctors operated on him and closed up a 10-inch-long slash wound.

Matthews was apprehended early Wednesday morning at the Budget Inn Express on McDonough Street, police said. He was arrested and taken to the Will County jail.
