Fib About Drinking & Driving Junior College Cop Gets Joliet Man Arrested: Police

He called 911 and said a Joliet Junior College Police Officer was drinking beer while driving his squad car, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man called 911 and made up a story about a police officer drinking beer in his squad car while he drove on Interstate 355, according to a criminal complaint filed in Will County court.

Steven Perry, 36, was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with his alleged fib from back in March.

Perry was also driving on I-355 when he made the 911 call, said Joliet Junior College Police Chief Pete Comanda.

“The allegation was the officer was drinking beer and swerving through multiple lanes of traffic,” Comanda said.

The Joliet Junior College Police handled the case because the complaint was about one of their officers driving one of their squad cars back from the police academy at the College of DuPage, Comanda said.

The Joliet Junior College police interviewed Perry and his story changed numerous times, Comanda said. Eventually, police determined Perry called 911 because he thought the officer was calling in his information.

“None of it made any sense,” Comanda said.

“He thought the officer was calling him in, so he was going to call him in first,” the chief said.

A warrant for Perry’s arrest was obtained on Tuesday. He surrendered at the Rockdale Police Department on Thursday evening, Comanda said, and was released on bond.
