Girl, 16, Stabs Victim, 15, In Social Media Dispute: Joliet Police
The 15-year-old girl underwent surgery for a serious injury after being stabbed, police said.

JOLIET — Joliet Police Department Sgt. Tizoc Landeros announced on Tuesday morning that a 15-year-old girl suffered serious wounds in a stabbing on Monday, but is now in stable condition. Meanwhile, Joliet police arrested a 16-year-old girl in the attacking, charging her with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery on a public way and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
Landeros said that about 2:45 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to the 2100 block of Newport Drive regarding a stabbing of a juvenile victim. Officers met with the victim and witnesses, who advised the victim was stabbed by a juvenile female suspect.
According to Landeros, the victim and suspect know each other. The stabbing stemmed from a dispute through social media between the two teen girls, Landeros said.

The 15-year-old victim suffered a stab wound to the torso area of her body.
The officers went to the 16-year-old suspect’s home, where they made contact with her mother, but her whereabouts were unknown at that time, Landeros said.

The victim was taken to the local hospital. While receiving medical treatment, medical staff discovered her injury was more serious than initially thought. The teen underwent surgery
to repair the injury, and medical staff said she was in stable condition, according to police.
At about 6:30 pm, the 16-year-old suspect went to the Joliet Police Department with her parents.
Officers met with them and took her into custody. Investigators interviewed the
teen, who provided a statement consistent with the facts of the case, Landeros said.
After being interviewed, the teen girl was brought to the Joliet Police booking area,
where she was processed and taken to the River Valley Justice Center without incident, police said.
