Gunshots On May, Oneida Leave Woman Injured With Graze Wound: JPD

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department made two arrests in connection with a weekend shooting that left a woman injured with a graze wound as she was sitting inside a car on Oneida Street. One person taken into custody was involved in the drive-by shooting, and the second arrest involved the homeowner at the one of the west side properties damaged by the gunfire, according to Joliet police officials.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, Jamarion Poston, 22, of Lockport was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated discharge of a gun and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. The second person who was arrested was 41-year-old Michael Brophy of Joliet.
Brophy went to the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and violation of pre-trial release. Joliet police also arrested him for possessing a stolen car.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 11:07 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the 100 block of North May Street for a report of shots fired. The officers spotted an SUV leaving the scene and during a traffic stop, Poston was identified as the driver. Five male passengers between the ages of 16 and 17 were also detained from the traffic stop, but were later released pending further investigation.
Upon search of the vehicle, police say officers recovered two loaded handguns. Poston was placed into custody without incident.

Officers discovered numerous spent shell casings in the area, and two homes in the 100 block of North May Street and one home in the 1000 block of Oneida Street were struck by the bullets.
As the investigation progressed, police say they learned that an uninvolved woman suffered a graze gunshot wound to her leg while she sat in a vehicle in a driveway in the 1000 block of Oneida Street. She was taken to the St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. No other injuries were reported.
The investigation led to the search of one of the homes struck by gunfire, and officers discovered ammunition. Additionally, a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the week was discovered in the garage, police said. The homeowner, Brophy, was placed into custody without incident.
