Here’s Who’s Taken Out Petitions For Joliet City Office Races

Mayor Bob O'Dekirk will seek a third term for Mayor, which is being sought by five candidates while five council seats are up for grabs.

JOLIET, IL — Five people, including incumbent Bob O’Dekirk, have pulled petitions to seek the office of mayor in Joliet ahead of the upcoming filing deadline, according to the city’s website

Candidates running for office can begin filing their petitions with the city Monday for the upcoming April election. The deadline for candidates to file is Dec. 19.

O’Dekirk, a former Joliet police officer, was first elected to the city council in 2011 and has served as the city’s Mayor since 2015. He ran unopposed in 2019, marking the first time in decades that the race for Mayor in Joliet was uncontested.

Patch previously reported that O’Dekirk has raised more than $66,000 since June 30 and that as of August, had more than $236,000 in his coffers for his re-election bid.

Terry D’Arcy, a prominent auto dealer in Joliet, announced over the summer that he will be opposing O’Dekirk saying that Joliet “needs to create a new vision for tomorrow and future generations.”

D’Arcy first announced in mid-June that he planned to seek the office of Mayor after working in Joliet for more than 30 years as the owner and president of D’Arcy Automobiles.

Along with O’Dekirk and D’Arcy, Gregory Lee, Tycee Bell and Latonya Burnham have taken out petitions for Mayor as of Friday.

Five City Council seats will be up for grabs in April, with a seat available in each of the five districts. According to the city’s website as of Friday, the following candidates have taken out petitions.
