Infant, 2 Women Die In House Fire

The Joliet Fire Department, with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are investigating the blaze.

JOLIET, IL — Firefighters found the bodies of an infant and two women while battling an early Saturday morning blaze at a North Center Street house.

Another resident, a man, leaped for his life from a second-story window, said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Blaskey.

Firefighters were sent to the house at 16 N. Center shortly before 2 a.m. When the first crews arrived, the building was already engulfed in flames, Blaskey said.

Alerted to the possibility of people still being inside the burning house, firefighters attempted a rescue. The bodies of the baby girl and the women were found on the second floor. They were pronounced dead at the scene, Blaskey said.

Investigators from the Joliet Fire Department are probing the deadly blaze with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
