2 Dogs Die After Joliet House Goes Up In Flames

"Please avoid the area to allow access to emergency vehicles," the police asked.

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department announced that two dogs died in Wednesday's early evening fire on the city of Joliet's in the 100 block of Union Street. Everybody who lived at the house escaped to safety.

According to Joliet Fire Battalion Chief James Ryan's press release:

At 5 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department responded to 26 Union Street for a structure fire. The first units arrived within five minutes, and the crews found fire blowing out the front of a two-unit apartment. Residents were reported to be trapped on the second floor; however, fire crews made entry from the 2nd floor windows and conducted a search.

It was later found that everyone made it out of the building, Ryan noted.

The fire was declared under control at 5:30 p.m. The cause is under investigation. Fire crews from stations 1,3,4,6 and 8 were on scene.

On Tuesday night, the Joliet Fire Department responded to a fire in the 700 block of Gardner Street, which is not that far away from the site of Wednesday evening's fire.
