JOLIET — A 49-year-old Joliet citizen is now in the Will County Jail following Wednesday's violent encounter in the 1300 block of Kenmore Avenue. Joliet police say Ernest Lopez was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events unfolded on Wednesday:

The officers responded to a house in the 1300 block of Kenmore Avenue at 4:51 p.m., for a domestic disturbance. The officers learned of a fight involving a man with his brother-in-law, Lopez. It is alleged that Lopez choked the victim and then took the victim’s phone from him to prevent him from calling 911, Joliet police noted.
