Officers learned that the disturbance involved Mitchell, a woman and her adult son. Police allege that Mitchell became involved in a struggle with the woman. Her son attempted to intervene, and police said Mitchell struck him multiple times in the face. The female victim was also punched in the face when trying to intervene between Mitchell and her son, according to police. Mitchell was placed into custody by officers, English noted.

The Illinois Department of Corrections issued a parole warrant for Mitchell following his arrest.

In that story from two years ago, Joliet Patch reported that after spending 27 years wearing a sky blue Illinois Department of Corrections uniform and writing letters to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker seeking an executive clemency on his Joliet first-degree murder conviction from 1995, Mitchell was back in custody, facing seven new criminal charges from the Joliet Police Department. Mitchell attacked a woman and her adult son at her house in the 800 block of Kelly Avenue, according to Joliet police, who say Mitchell knew the woman and her son.
