Joliet Township High School To Continue Remote Learning Through Feb. 16

"Data at this time required me to make this recommendation," Dr. Guseman said of the Board of Education approval.

Dear Parents and Students,

It is hard to believe that Semester 1 ends on Friday. I am grateful to our students, families, and staff for making the most of remote learning. Remote education is not without challenges; however, you continue to do an excellent job despite the circumstances.

The JTHS Board of Education met last night and there are some important updates that I would like to share.

JTHS Remote Learning Continues Until February 16
Remote Learning will continue until February 16, 2021. The safety of students and staff is paramount and the data at this time required me to make this recommendation, which was approved by the Board of Education last night. In addition to concerns with the current positivity rate for our region, county and community, we are concerned with logistically having the ability to implement a hybrid structure due to current community transmission.

We will continue to monitor the metrics provided to us from the Illinois Department of Health and will re-evaluate the decision to deliver instruction remotely on a monthly basis for the remainder of the school year.

Remote Learning Schedule Modification
The first day of remote student attendance for Semester 2 classes is Wednesday, January 6, 2021. A modification has been made to the remote learning schedule, which provides consistency and eliminates confusion. On days when students are participating in remote learning, all classes are 40 minutes with 10 minutes in between classes. See schedule below for a typical remote learning week.

Board of Education Resignation & Vacancy
JTHS Board of Education Secretary, Ms. Meg Cappel, has stepped down from her role on the School Board.  Ms. Cappel was elected to the Illinois State Senate to represent the 49th District in the November 3rd General Election.  Ms. Cappel resigned from her position with the JTHS Board of Education prior to the administration of Senate oath of office.  JTHS appreciates the work that Ms. Cappel dedicated while serving as a member of our Board of Education and wishes her well as a member of the Illinois State Senate.

At last night’s meeting, Board Member Ms. Michelle Stiff moved to the role of secretary. The Board will fill the vacant seat by appointing a new member to serve in Ms. Cappel’s place. The Board is accepting applications for the position until December 23. More information is available at www.jths.org.

Semester 1 Report Card Reminder
As a reminder, Semester 1 Report Cards will be posted to Campus Parent and Campus Student no later than December 21.  Instructions for accessing report cards are available in English and Spanish.  We will send notification when report cards are available.  If you need assistance, contact Central Campus Family Liaison Alicia Rojas or West Campus Family Liaison Lisa Guzman.  Our Family Engagement Liaisons can help in English and Spanish.
