Joliet Woman Accused of Molesting Girls Plans to Wed

Cara Labus, a former teacher, asked a judge to let her stay out late in her own back yard for her wedding reception.

A former coach and teacher accused of sexually abusing two Orland Park junior high students asked a judge to let her stay outside in her own back yard for her own wedding reception.

Cara Labus, 31, of Joliet, who’s on home monitoring, will be allowed outside until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, a Cook County judge decided Tuesday, despite the objections of prosecutors.

Labus was arrested in January and accused of abusing two girls between the ages of 14 and 16 from 2008 to 2011 while she was a teacher and basketball coach at Jerling Junior High School. She’s charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Labus taught at Jerling from 2006 to 2010.

The Daily Southtown reports that her fiance appeared in court with her on Tuesday. He’s a teacher at Hufford Junior High School in Joliet, where Labus taught until her arrest.

Earlier this year, Labus sought an order of protection against a woman who was stalking her and making accusations about sexual abuse.
