Latest Joliet Fire Destroys This West Side Property: 4 Photos
The Red Cross was working with occupants for temporary housing, according to the Joliet Fire Department battalion chief.

JOLIET — An apartment house on Joliet's west side was destroyed during Tuesday's lunch hour fire that happened in the 1200 block of Elizabeth Street.
According to Joliet Battalion Chief Pat Strocchia, at 12:39 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department responded to 1200 block of Elizabeth Street for a structure fire.
The first units arrived within four minutes of the call and found heavy fire and smoke in a second-floor apartment. Residents were alerted by working smoke detectors and exited the building, fire officials said. Responding crews were able to extinguish the fire and contain fire damage to the second floor.

The scene was declared under control at 12:52 p.m. There were no injuries. The building sustained smoke and water damage to other apartments.

Fire crews from Station 5, 6, 1 and 4 responded to the scene. The fire is currently under investigation, according to the battalion chief.
