Loaded Gun In Joliet Man's Vehicle Lands Him In Will County Jail: Cops

The Will County State's Attorney Office approved class X felony charges following a review of this case.

JOLIET, IL — A 46-year-old Joliet man who comes from the 500 block of West Marion is back in the Will County Jail for the fourth time since 2017. The latest arrest for Shane Mitchell happened early Sunday morning and Joliet police had him charged with being an armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a gun, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and driving while license suspended.

At 1:21 a.m., the Joliet's overnight officers conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler Aspen in the 500 block of Marion Street for a driver’s license violation. Officers identified the driver as Mitchell and confirmed he held a suspended driver’s license, police spokesman Dwayne English noted.

Following a search of Mitchell’s vehicle, the officers recovered a loaded handgun. Mitchell was unable to produce a conceal carry license or a FOID. He was placed into custody without incident and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The Will County State’s Attorney Office approved class X felony charges following a review of this case.
