JOLIET — The first stabbing of 2025 in downtown Joliet took place over the weekend, and that incident resulted in another trip to the Will County Jail for 30-year-old Terrell Taylor. He's now being detained on charges of aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, criminal trespass to state supported land and for having an outstanding Will County arrest warrant.

The stabbing victim chose not to go to the hospital, according to the police reports.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the stabbing happened on Sunday night.

According to English:

At 7:38 p.m., the officers responded to an apartment in the 0-50 block of East Clinton Street for a person stabbed. The officers learned that Taylor knocked at an apartment door which was answered by another man.

Taylor asked if a woman was in the apartment and asked the male for a lighter. After receiving the lighter, Taylor left but returned a few minutes later knocking at the same apartment door, appearing agitated.

The same man answered the door again and Taylor allegedly flicked a cigarette at him, retrieved a knife from his sock, and stabbed the male in the stomach before fleeing the scene.

The wound to the male was superficial and he declined medical assistance.

Taylor was apprehended by the officers following a brief foot chase that ended near Cass Street and Chicago Street. During the arrest, Taylor struggled with the officers and initially refused to place his arms behind his back.

Taylor also held an active arrest warrant for failing to appear in Will County court for a previous charge of DUI. Taylor was taken to the St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department after requesting medical assistance. Officers determined that Taylor appeared to be possibly under the influence of an unknown substance. Taylor was later released from the hospital and brought to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Taylor was previously housed in the Will County Jail in 2024, 2020 and 2017.
