It is also the home where he simply enjoyed watching his grandchildren, Austin Stein, Tyler Neal Stein, Sydney MacDonald, and Colin MacDonald grow to adulthood.

Neal was an exceptional athlete in high school and college. At Northern Illinois University, he played on the 1968 National Championship Football team. He also competed in wrestling, winning the National Heavyweight Championship for NIU in 1965. He was honored by both Joliet Junior College and Northern Illinois University by being inducted into their respective Halls of Fame. With parenthood, Neal transitioned from athlete to coach and cheerleader. He was always the most passionate fan in the stands.
Neal was also an Eagle Scout which is the highest award in Boy Scouts. His adventures with the Scouts led to a love of outdoor sports. He was an avid fisherman spending many hours in a fishing boat in Canada and Lake of Egypt looking for his next catch. The best part of any fishing trip for Neal was the time spent with his family and lifelong friends.
