Public Meeting For Chicago Street Project

The meeting is Wednesday afternoon.

JOLIET, IL — The city has scheduled a public Meeting on the project to re-open Chicago Street. Closed for decades from Washington Street to Van Buren Street, Chicago Street will be continuous again. The project is being undertaken in hopes of spurring downtown economic growth.

The three-hour informational meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday in the City Council Chambers.

"Attendees can sign in, observe exhibits on display, and interact with the project team who will be available to answer questions," the city said in a press release. "All persons interested in this project are invited to attend this meeting."

Among the proposed improvements in the project are new roadway alignment reconnecting Chicago Street from Washington Street to Jefferson Street and reconstruction of Chicago Street from Jefferson Street to Van Buren Street.
