Arrested Will County Sheriff's Employee Identified By His Department

JOLIET — One of the employees at the Will County Sheriff's Office had their home in Elwood raided by the police and federal authorities on Thursday morning, Scott Slocum of WJOL News reported from the scene.
Slocum revealed that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security led the raid in the 900 block of Meadowbrook Drive, joined by SWAT teams. Slocum reported that the authorities were on the lookout for a person who works at the sheriff's office.
"The Will County Sheriff’s Office can confirm that a member of our department was taken in for questioning today by Homeland Security. As this remains an active and ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide further details at this time. We encourage any inquiries regarding this matter to be directed to Homeland Security," announced Kevin Hedemark, the new public information officer at the Will County Sheriff's Office, who replaced the retiring Kathy Hoffmeyer.

On Friday, the Will County Sheriff's Office confirmed that 41-year-old Daniel Herod was taken into custody by the U.S. Homeland Security investigations and that Herod will have a court hearing at 9:30 a.m. in Will County Courtroom 405. Herod has been at the sheriff's office, as a deputy corrections officer at the Will County Jail. He joined the sheriff's agency in May of 2010.
