Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested In Joliet: Police

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department announced that 40-year-old Edgar Gang-Velazquez is now staying in the Will County Jail following his weekend arrest on charges of criminal sexual assault.

According to the arrest reports, at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a home in the 1000 block of Arthur Avenue for a report of a sexual assault. Upon arrival, the officers spoke to a woman, who indicated that she had just been sexually assaulted by Gang-Velazquez. The victim was taken to Silver Cross hospital by the Joliet Fire Department.

Officers found Gang-Velazquez a short time later following a traffic stop near Ruby Street and Liberty Street. Following questioning at the Joliet Police Department, Gang-Velazquez was placed into custody.
