Guest At Star Inn Arrested, Taken To Jail By Joliet Police On 2 Criminal Charges

Stumpe was advised by officers to go back to his room, but he refused, and as a result, he was placed into custody, Joliet police say.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet police force found itself visiting a familiar property on Sunday night, responding to the Star Inn at 2219 1/2 West Jefferson Street to arrest one of the guests, 42-year-old Joliet man William Stumpe.

Stumpe eventually wound up inside the Will County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing justice, and remained in detention as of Monday.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 7:56 p.m., officers responded to the Star Inn for a disturbance. At the scene, the officers learned that Stumpe, a motel guest, was intoxicated and yelling, disturbing other residents at the property, English said.

Officers told Stumpe to go back to his room, but police say he refused, and as a result, he was placed into custody.

Later, according to English, Stumpe refused to cooperate with booking procedures at the Joliet Police Department, so he was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, the arrest reports show. The jail records list Stumpe as previously residing in Joliet in the 1800 block of Valley Parkway.
