JOLIET — It does not happen often, but every once in a while officers at the Joliet Police Department deploy their Tasers in order to gain compliance from someone they believe is violent or out of control. On Tuesday, officers used their Tasers during the arrest of 31-year-old citizen Andre Jordan.

Jordan was later released from custody, under the SAFE-T-Act, on a notice to appear in court on charges of criminal property damage, two counts of obstructing a police officer and one resisting arrest charge.

Joliet police spokesman Tizoc Landeros said Jordan's arrest unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in the 300 block of North Broadway Street. It began as a disturbance call.

According to Landeros, once on the scene, officers met with the victim. He was towing Jordan’s vehicle from a parking lot. Jordan was being uncooperative with the officers, according to Landeros , who said he was making threats to cause harm to the victim and officers.

Police said Jordan kicked the tow truck’s passenger door, causing damage. When the officers tried to take Jordan into custody, Landeros said he tensed up and tried to flee and would not obey the officer’s commands. The officers deployed a Taser and Jordan was ultimately taken into custody.
