Track This Afternoon's Thunderstorms with Live Radar

Slow-moving storm clouds passing through Chicago area for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms have begun early this afternoon, with showers reported within this hour in from northwest suburban Crystal Lake into Grayslake and southwest suburban New Lenox toward Homewood.

The precipitation is moving slowly, and stronger storms later today will be capable of producing brief heavy downpours and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service. The strongest storms may produce wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph, frequent lightning and heavy downpours, according to the NWS.

The NWS forecast calls for the highest chance of heavy storm activity at the onset of the afternoon rush hour. The storms would continue well into the evening hours through early Tuesday morning.

The NWS forecasts a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday, with the highest probability after 8 p.m.. High temp near 83. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
