Uber Driver's Car Shot Up Overnight: Joliet Police

JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department is now investigating its first shooting of 2025. An Uber driver notified police that his car was shot up during the middle of the night on the near west side of Joliet.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, around 2:09 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the Shorewood Police Department for a report of a shooting which was determined to have occurred earlier in the night in Joliet.

Officers learned that a 47-year-old Uber driver was driving a Toyota RAV4 with a male customer near North Broadway Street and Russell Street shortly after 1 a.m. when the driver overheard two gunshots and realized that his vehicle had been struck twice.

Police said it was unknown where the gunfire came from. The driver continued driving and eventually dropped the Uber customer off at their destination, then drove to the Shorewood Police Department, where officials then contacted Joliet Police.

The vehicle appeared to be struck by gunfire once in the driver’s side door and once in the rear driver’s side door, English said. No injuries were reported. Officers responded to the 900 block of North Broadway Street at 1:29 a.m. the same morning, but were unable to locate anything at that time.
