Woman Pulled Down Flight Of Stairs After Being Choked; Man, 63, Arrested: Joliet Police

The victim came to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the attacks. Officers were unable to find the suspect at that time.

JOLIET — A 63-year-old man is now in the Will County Jail facing charges of aggravated domestic battery and five counts of domestic battery after Joliet police say Wendell Alexander choked a woman and tossed her down a flight of stairs by her jacket.

Alexander's crimes happened two weeks ago, and he was arrested on Saturday, according to Joliet police arrest files.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 9:29 a.m. April 7, officers responded to St. Joseph Medical Center for a report of a past tense domestic disturbance. Officers spoke to a female victim and learned that a day earlier, she was attacked by her ex-boyfriend, identified as Alexander, at a house in the 100 block of Edward Street.

Police allege that Alexander grew angry at the victim and choked her while he was on top of her, English said.

Officers learned that the next morning, Alexander grew angry again and pulled the victim down a set of stairs by her jacket, the arrest files show.

Alexander and the victim went to Walmart in the 2400 block of Jefferson Street, where the victim was able to get away, according to police. The victim came to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the attacks. Officers were unable to locate Alexander at that time.

Detectives investigating this incident obtained an arrest warrant on April 17 for Alexander, and he was placed into custody without incident following a traffic stop at 1:56 p.m. April 19 in the 200 block of Edward Street on April 19.
