La Grange Park Honors Just Irish Enough Fundraisers

Organizers of La Grange Park's Just Irish Enough Parade and Fundraiser for St. Baldrick's Foundation were honored and received several rounds of applause for their charitable work at a La Grange Park Village Board meeting on Tuesday night.

Village President Jim Discipio and the Village of La Grange Park honored organizers of the , who this year alone raised more that $100,000 for donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation—a charity that supports research in the fight against children's cancers.

Discipio presented a proclamation to Just Irish Enough parade organizer Jim McCarthy, who said the parade began four years ago to simply celebrate St. Patrick's Day with his neighbors in the way he used to at Chicago's Southside Irish Parade.

McCarthy said the first year, he and his wife sold corned beef sandwiches and donated the proceeds—$300—to St. Baldrick's. Since then, the parade has raised nearly $250,000 for St. Baldrick's as support from the community and local schools grew.
