La Grange Voters ‘Sent Clear Statement,’ Trustee Holder Says
Trustee Bill Holder won re-election Tuesday night, along with fellow incumbent Mark Langan and newcomer to the board, David McCarty.

Two incumbents will be returning to the La Grange Village Board, along with one new face, after voters elected the slate endorsed by the Citizens’ Council of La Grange during Tuesday’s election.
“It’s a very clear statement by the voters that they agree that La Grange works,” said Trustee Bill Holder, who won his bid for re-election alongside fellow Trustee Mark Langan. Also on the slate was board newcomer David McCarty, who has served previously on several village committees.
Up against the trio was a competing slate composed of Joan Hoigard and Jeff Tucek, as well as incumbent Michael Horvath.

The slate is ready to move La Grange forward in a time that, with the uncertainty tied to state revenues, continues to be financially challenging, Langan said.
“There’s a lot of ‘what ifs’ around there and we have to be nimble and able to adjust going forward,” he said.
Holder said that McCarty, an architect, will inject a new expertise into the board that will help in the preservation of La Grange’s character.
McCarty said he learned a great deal by canvassing the village’s neighborhoods during the campaign. He said he plans to bring the deeper community understanding he developed to his new role.
“In a town this small, you should be able to make almost everybody happy,” he said. “… You want to make sure all the voices are heard.”

John Burns won a narrow victory over Lisa Sher in the race for village clerk. After serving many years on the Economic Development Commission, he said he was pleased this fall when the Citizens’ Council of La Grange asked him to run.
He’s proud, he said, to serve a community that residents love so deeply. Many children who grow up in La Grange return as adults to raise their own kids, he said.
“So there’s a testament,” he said, “a generational testament to the fabric that makes up our village.”
