Fighting hunger with Empty Bowls in La Grange Park.
With over 700 bowls awaiting donors on Thursday night at the Empty Bowls event in La Grange Park, there was a little something for everyone.
Laid out on tables at , 333 N. La Grange Rd., members of the community looking to support a good cause picked over handmade bowls crafted by Village Potters, students at Lyons Township High School and members of the and . Everything from artistically sculpted bowls to bowls with cats was on display at the event, which ran from 6-9 p.m.
"It's a good way to make art relevant," said Village Potter owner Nancy Gorman. “It’s something we wanted to continue."

Village Potters has picked up the project, which began in the La Grange Park area two years ago at the now closed . Empty Bowls is a grassroots project designed to raise awareness about the fight against hunger in communities all over the world.
"It's a hidden need in communities like ours," said Curt Hansman, a co-owner of Village Potters. "[Village Potters] is committed to acting locally in a way that helps local residents."

The purchase of a ticket for $20 allowed donors to choose a bowl to take home and to take around to local businesses in the Village Market for a bowl of chili and other treats. Funds raised through Empty Bowls will be donated to food pantries at , , St. Barbara and churches.
