Abandoned Stolen Vehicle Causes Lockdowns At Lemont Schools

Police said they received a report about a vehicle; when they found the vehicle, it was abandoned with no one inside.

LEMONT, IL — Several schools in Lemont were placed on a "soft lockdown" after an abandoned stolen vehicle was found by Lemont Police.

District 113A said that students at Central, River Valley and Oakwood schools were kept inside for recess and physical education classes due to the situation. Lemont High School also placed the school in a "secure and teach" situation.

Lemont Police told Patch that it received a report about a vehicle with people inside, but when police arrived, they found the vehicle abandoned and no one was inside the vehicle. Police ran the plates, and the vehicle was stolen earlier this month out of Joliet.
