"It appears to be someone who was out walking," Domrose said. "Now we're just waiting for autopsy results."

It is unclear how long the body had been there, Domrose said. She could not confirm whether it was a man or woman, but reports from Lemont police and a Lemont woman at the scene said it was a man.

The woman said she was riding her bicycle on a path along Bluff Road, near the Hindu Temple, when she heard a train on the Burlington Northern Sante Fe tracks.

The train stopped, so she got off her bike to walk around. As she neared the tracks, she found four train employees standing near the dead body.

"They yelled as I approached because my bike probably would have hit the man," she said. "It was like a scene out of Law and Order. It was completely surreal."

The woman described the man as older, possibly in his 50s, and said he appeared to have fallen near the tracks.

After talking with the train conductor and employees, the woman called the for assistance. Because the area is unincorporated Lemont, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation.

"I just feel so horrible that the man was all alone," the Lemont woman said. "It's just an awful, tragic thing to have witnessed."
