• Checkers Sign Vinnie Purpura (oursportscentral.com) — A fellow Lemont native, goaltender Vinnie Purpura, has signed a one-year AHL contract with the Charlotte Checkers after an impressive run in the ECHL. The 27-year-old, who has posted strong numbers with Reading and Savannah, will remain with the Savannah Ghost Pirates for now while under contract with Charlotte.
