Driver Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On I-355: Police

LEMONT, IL — One driver was killed and another was severely injured early Sunday morning in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 355 in Lemont, authorities said.

The deceased was identified Sunday afternoon as Juan C. Vera Najera, 38, of Bolingbrook, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the Des Plaines River, when the driver of a vehicle going north in the southbound lanes hit another vehicle head-on, according to state police. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle died at the scene and the other driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said.

All lanes were shut down for several hours during the investigation, according to police.
