Heat Wave: Lemont Cooling Centers Open

Lemont will be under an extreme heat warning, in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday to midnight Monday night.​

LEMONT, IL — The "most uncomfortable air of the season so far" is on the way to the Chicago area, as heat index values over 100 degrees and "oppressively hot and humid" weather are expected starting on Saturday.

"Saturday through Monday look like the worst at this point, though hot temperatures may continue thereafter," the weather service said on its Facebook page.

With the incoming heat wave, the Village of Lemont is reminding residents about available cooling centers in Lemont. Cooling centers operate at:

  • Lemont CORE, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday; and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday
  • Lemont Library, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday
  • Lemont Township, 16300 Alba St., 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Lemont Village Hall, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday

After hours, you can call the Lemont Police Department's non-emergency phone number at 630-257-2226 for assistance. In the event of an emergency situation, please call 911.

Due to the extreme heat, Waste Management will also begin servicing Lemont customers starting at 5 a.m. on June 24 and June 25.
