Man, 63, In Custody After Shelter-In-Place Order In Lemont: Police

Charges are currently pending after an incident in Lemont prompted a shelter-in-place order late Wednesday, police said.

LEMONT, IL — A 63-year-old Lemont man was taken into custody on Wednesday night after a domestic-related incident, Lemont Police said.

Police said that they were called at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 1300 block of Arbor Lane for the domestic incident. When they arrived, officers made contact with the victim and were told that the man was still inside the home and armed with a gun.

As officers approached the front door, the man abruptly closed it and said he was armed with a gun and would not come out, police said. Officers then secured the area and established a perimeter.

The DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigation SWAT team, and negotiators, were called to assist.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents in the Harper's Grove subdivision during the incident. The order was lifted at 12:41 a.m. Thursday.

After three hours of negotiation, police said the man voluntarily came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident. A search of the home recovered several rifles and one handgun.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.
