Lemont Police Department to Be Reviewed for Accreditation

Residents are invited to offer comments on the department's performance during a public information session Jan. 9.

The will soon be reviewed by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, the department announced Monday.

From Jan. 8-11, a team of assessors from CALEA will conduct a review of the Lemont Police Department's policy and procedures, management, operations and support services, according to Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy.

The voluntary process will determine whether Lemont meets the commission's "state-of-the-art standards" to gain accreditation — "a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence," Shaughnessy said.
