Old Quarry Girls Cross Country Team Advances to State

The team will compete Saturday in the Illinois Elementary School Association state finals in Normal, IL.

The following information was provided by Dennis Kennedy, activities director at Old Quarry Middle School.

The girls cross country team will again be heading to the Illinois Elementary School Association State Finals.

The team earned a bid to the IESA state meet by placing second at the Bolingbrook Sectional on Oct. 8. The state competition will be held Oct. 15 at Maxwell Park in Normal, IL, and will feature the 50 best teams in the state.

Eighth-grader Claire Gagen placed fifth overall out of 90 runners at sectionals. Lindsey Mazur was 14th, Kayla Trojak placed 15th, Beata Drozda placed 19th and Gabby Voltarrel finished 22nd to round out the top scorers.

Joy Drassler (26th ) and Taylor Campos (57th) also ran well. Each team is allowed 3 alternate runners. For Old Quarry, those were Jaycee Schickel, Alysse Jurgeto and Bridget Doherty.
